Every year, Tuscany’s enogastronomic excellence lands on the greens of Italy’s best golf courses through competitions that promote local wine and food. But the ‘Bel Paese’ also has a lesser known, more recent ambition: beer! You have probably heard of Nastro Azzurro (Peroni Brewery), which was the thirteenth best-selling beer in the United Kingdom in 2010.

In Tuscany you can also find home-brewed beers of outstanding quality, created with the use of carefully selected local raw materials such as organic cereals.

In the beautiful, hilly area of Val d’Orcia, San Quirico Brewery produces limited quantities of home-brewed beer without the use of preservatives, additives and chemical flavors.

This brewery, which was opened in 2009 in the village of San Quirico d’Orcia, combines the ancient traditions of the art of brewery with the latest and most advanced scientific research, and produces unfiltered and unpasteurized, high fermentation beers without preservatives or chemical flavourings and additives.

San Quirico’s “Bir-riciclo” or Beer-recycle project rewards clients who return empty bottles with a discount, thus enabling the brewery to recuperate much of the distributed glass. Finally, their promotional material is printed on recycled paper and the residues from the production of the beer are re-used as feed for local animals.

All amateurs can join a tournament to win a selection of quality beers. So, during your next golf trip to Italy, do not forget to watch out for this challenge and sign up!s involved in the golf world by sponsoring a number of tournaments all across Italy, under the name “Birrificio San Quirico Golf Cup”.
